Sorry – I have to rant – I received an email forwarded to me from my Dad and I’m not upset at his email, but at the amazingly stupid behaviour exemplified in this email.

I generally shy away from discussing my contraception choices on the general populous of the internet, however in light of what I’ve been going through, this time I have something to say.
The back story: In 2003 I was a university undergraduate and broke with a crap schedule. After doing what I thought was sufficient research, I opted to move from the Micronor pill (i.e. the ‘mini-pill’) to the Mirena IUD.
For whatever reasons, I’m not able to take combination pills, and so I’ve done quite well on progesterone only birth control. What I didn’t realize then, is that not all progesterones are the same.
The insertion was tremendously painful, and after recovering from it, life went on and I thought I had a great form of BC. My periods stopped and even though I had gained weight in the first 6 months, my gyno assured me that it was simply a lifestyle issue, and had nothing to do with the IUD.
